Evidence reports for solicitors and small law firms

Chronology drafting is necessary, billable at a poor rate, and the first thing to slip. TraceFolio produces a first-pass chronology and contradiction review from a document bundle, with every line cited to a file and page so a fee earner can check it quickly instead of rebuilding it.

The problem this solves

A modest matter can arrive as several hundred pages of correspondence, attachments and file notes. The chronology has to be right, and the reading is the cost.

Contradictions across a bundle are the highest-value thing in the file and the easiest to miss, because they only surface when two documents are read against each other.

Evidence you probably already hold

  • Correspondence bundles and email exports
  • Contracts, deeds and schedules
  • File notes and attendance notes
  • Statements and witness accounts
  • Invoices, statements of account and schedules of loss
  • Scanned documents, including poor-quality scans

What the report gives you

  • A first-pass chronology of events the documents record, with each entry cited to file, page and passage
  • A contradiction pass across the whole bundle, not document by document
  • A claims and commitments register: what each party asserted or undertook, and where
  • An evidence-support assessment showing how strongly each finding is grounded in the material
  • An explicit register of what the bundle does not establish, which is often the useful output

A worked example

A breach of contract matter with disputed variation

What goes in

  • A signed contract and two variation emails
  • Four months of project correspondence
  • Two invoices and a payment schedule

What comes out

  • A chronology placing the variation emails against the invoiced work
  • A contradiction where a later email restates a deadline the earlier agreement set differently
  • A commitments register naming who agreed to what, with the passage quoted
  • A note that no document records acceptance of the second variation

The example is illustrative of the report structure, not a real client matter.

Why verification matters here

An AI-assisted work product only helps if you can show what it was produced from. Every TraceFolio finding quotes a passage that must appear verbatim in the source, and findings that fail that check are removed rather than softened.

Each report is hashed and certified with a public verification page, so the copy on the file can be shown to be the copy that was produced.

How verification works

What it does not do

  • It is not legal advice and does not form or express a legal view.
  • It does not assess admissibility, privilege or weight.
  • It works only from what is uploaded, and it does not search for documents that are missing from the bundle.

Pay per report, or by the month

A one-off matter is a single report. A practice running chronologies across several matters a month is the case a monthly plan is priced for.

Quick Report0.5£9.99

Extended Report3£79

How plans work

  • A credit is one Detailed Report. A Quick Report costs half a credit and an Extended Report costs three.
  • Credits refresh at the start of each billing period and do not roll over.
  • If a report needs more credits than you have left, you can pay the standard one-off price for it. A plan never blocks you from getting a report.
  • Cancel at any time. You keep every report and verification page you have already produced.

Plans are billed by Stripe and can be cancelled at any time from your account page. Credits are spent when you start a report, and any report you produce stays yours, with its verification page, after a plan ends.

Questions from solicitors & small law firms

Is this legal advice?

No. TraceFolio organises and cites the documents you supply. It does not advise, form a legal view, or assess the merits of a claim. Every report says so on its face.

How do I know the report has not invented a quotation?

Each citation is checked verbatim against the extracted source text. A finding whose quoted passage cannot be matched to a source is removed from the report rather than published with a caveat.

Can I rely on it for a chronology I file?

Treat it as a first pass to check, not a finished document to file unread. It gives you the dated entries and the source references so review is fast, but the professional judgement about what belongs in a filed chronology remains yours.

How is client confidentiality handled?

Reports are private to your account, source files are removed on a short retention schedule, and the verification page publishes only cryptographic values, never evidence or content. The security and privacy pages set out the detail, including which subprocessors are involved.
